The VDC Manager leads local use of BIM and Virtual Design and Construction.  The primary duties of the role are to support multiple on-site construction team efforts to implement BIM/VDC to support operational efficiency. In addition, the role will support projects in model based trade coordination, leads project execution planning related to BIM/VDC, implementing BIM adoption within project teams.  A successful candidate will bring a can do attitude to the role and have the flexibility to respond to opportunities.


What You'll Do:

Provide operational support through:

  • Support multiple on-site construction team efforts to implement BIM/VDC to support operational efficiency
  • Lead the facilitation of 3-D, model based trade coordination in the field.
  • Lead the clash detection and resolution process through Navisworks.  Assist in resolution of issues
  • Manage BIM models to support field operations by configuring the project collaboration site or tool share models with the design team, subcontractors and field personnel
  • Provide layout and detailing in Revit or other CAD platforms to support assembly and/or field operations, as required
  • Support subcontractors as needed to incorporate their fabrication and shop drawings into the shared project model
  • Create and manage the trade coordination schedule with contractors and field personnel
  • Collect and process 3-D data in the field to perform reality capture technology such as laser scanners and 360 cameras
  • Create and maintain 2D/3D visualizations for safety and logistics plans
  • Develop 3-D, model based sequencing simulations (4D BIM)
  • Oversee and lead the BIM related close-out process, including preparation of the final as-built models

Provide planning support through:

  • Provide expertise to interpret BIM related customer requirements
  • Lead the Project Execution Planning process as related to BIM/VDC
  • Lead the development of BIM execution plans
  • Prepare scope of work documents for trades producing and using BIM models
  • Advise Project Leadership on staffing and risk issues during project setup

Provide organizational leadership that raises our competence with BIM/VDC:

  • Develop and implement a regional plan to drive BIM adoption within the region.  Increase the basic BIM capability of field personnel
  • Manage VDC resources within the local region, including allocation across projects
  • Train, mentor and oversee activities of VDC Coordinators, and VDC Engineers. Coach these employees to become proficient in BIM technology that serve to increase quality, predictability, schedule and cost
  • Participate in the VDC Manager Networks to share lessons learned and proven practices

Support Business Development & Innovation through:

  • Provide expertise to support pursuits, including authoring of BIM related RFP sections
  • Create basic 2-D and 3-D visualizations to support pursuits
  • Support client presentations and engagements
  • Identify opportunities to pilot new technology on local projects

Job Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule
  • Ability to contribute and lead within a team environment
  • Ability to teach and coach field personnel and VDC professionals on BIM/VDC
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail

We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience in the construction industry
  • 5+years of experience working in a BIM or VDC-related role
  • 5+ years of design, engineering, or construction roles, including work on large, complex project
  • Advanced software knowledge in Autodesk packages (Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, BIM360, etc.) and other platforms
  • Practical knowledge of advanced BIM practices and standards, such as 4-D Scheduling, 5-D Estimating and reality capture
