The Technical Lead of Data Architecture’s role is to strategically design, implement, and support enterprise data initiatives and analyses.  This role will be responsible for helping drive data management, governance and standardization across our diverse applications in order to streamline the integration of databases, applications, and external partners. This role will also be vital in developing our next-generation operational data store, data warehouse and data lake. This role will also be responsible for working with both IT and business teams in order to prioritize and extract value inherent within the organization’s data stores through the use of BI tools and advanced analytics. Core technologies for this role include T-SQL, Power BI, Azure Databases, Azure Data Warehouse, Azure Data Lake and other cloud technologies.

What You'll Do:

Strategy & Planning
  • Design and implement long-term strategic goals and short-term tactical plans for managing and maintaining corporate data;
  • Provide management and governance of corporate data through the use of master data management, data cleansing, data quality, metadata management, data modeling and data security tools and methodologies;
  • Provide architectural expertise on new and existing projects;  
  • Develop, document, and communicate plans for investing in systems architecture focused on data storage and processing;
  • Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of data storage, security, integration and analytics;
  • Working with the Team Lead of Data Services, develop strategy for company Business Intelligence and Analytics, providing a road map to allow the company to take advantage of Big Data;
  • Educate IT and business teams on the importance of leveraging standards for data governance and modeling.
Acquisition & Deployment
  • Deploy self-service data visualization and reporting solutions to end users providing easy access to data;
  • Research and make recommendations on products and services in support of data initiatives;
  • Perform systems analysis and design functions and work with developers when applicable;
  • Design, develop, and oversee implementation of end-to-end integrated systems to ensure data integrity.
Operational Management
  • Architect, implement, and maintain databases, data warehouses, data lakes, data models, and metadata / data dictionaries, along with data cleansing, master data management, and data quality repositories;
  • Design and implement data security layers for in-flight and at-rest data;
  • Develop and maintain BI/analytic solutions in support of business processes;
  • Spearhead data science initiatives to explore viability of machine learning, advanced visualization and predictive analytics within the organization;
  • Provide technical assistance to Business Analysts and Application Specialists in conducting needs analysis and review of solutions when needed;
  • Serve as a fully seasoned/proficient technical resource - should be ready to get into the weeds of the code, analyze and research data problems and discuss technical details with the development/support team;
  • Provides tech knowledge and capabilities as team member and individual contributor, but also responsible for instructing, directing, and checking the quality and timeliness of other systems professionals, including offshore resources;
  • Support the business in the data discovery process, helping to find hidden insights and connections within the data.
We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science, information technology or management information systems and 15+ years related work experience.  Master’s degree preferred;
  • Up to 10% travel will be required;
  • Must be available at the Charlotte, NC office during core business hours;
  • Experience in developing strategic systems architecture plans;
  • Extensive experience working with a variety of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), database technologies, and tools;
  • Experience using cloud based solutions, specifically Azure Data Warehouse and Azure Data Lake;
  • Experience with visualization tools such as Power BI and R/Python;
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory and Azure Data Bus is a plus;
  • Experience with APIs, specifically ODATA and other RESTful based APIs;
  • Expertise at querying and manipulating data on multiple platforms using multiple methodologies and tools;
  • Hands on knowledge of enterprise repository tools, data modeling tools, data mapping tools, master data management, data quality, data dictionaries, and data profiling tools;
  • Working knowledge of Big Data technologies;
  • Solid grounding in core enterprise applications such as JD Edwards and Oracle HCM;
  • Good project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures;
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities;
  • Has a passion for data and its inherent hidden value to an organization;
  • Understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives;
  • Superior written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent architecture and technical support documentation skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and consultative skills;
  • Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products as required;
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language;Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment;
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment;
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times;
  • Ability to work individually or as a team;
