General Position Summary

The Staff Accountant is part of the accounting team responsible for financial reporting, ad-hoc analysis, general ledger maintenance, account reconciliation, and assisting the team by maintaining accurate and complete accounting records. The position works under direct supervision and gathers and distributes information.  The Staff Accountant must work in a collaborative manner with co-workers and have strong organizational and accounting skills.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Post journal entries to the general ledger
  • Record fixed asset purchases, sales, and depreciation (book and tax)
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and other account reconciliations
  • Maintain the general ledger
  • Perform account analysis and monitor for unusual items
  • Reconcile and report required taxes (income, sales, property, revenue taxes)
  • Interact with all department managers, as well as internal/external parties, including unions, customers, and corporate auditors
  • Process and reconcile company cash receipts
  • Provide support for financial statement preparation
  • Prepare audit work papers and schedules

Skills & Abilities

  • General accounting knowledge including knowledge of GAAP and IFRS preferred
  • Knowledge of computer systems (JD Edwards, DAS and OnBase preferred), including Microsoft Office products
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have strong attention to detail
  • Strong ability and interest in account reconciliation and documentation
  • Must have strong work ethic and professional, hands-on attitude
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, learn quickly, and maintain sensitivity to confidential nature of assignments
  • Functions effectively as part of a team
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends during financial close periods, and as needed

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor degree required; Finance or Accounting preferred
  • 2-4 years of accounting experience
  • Overall understanding of General Accepted Accounting Practices 

Work Environment/Job Conditions

This job is performed primarily in the office with some work in a field environment.  Activities and responsibilities require frequent sitting (often working on a computer), walking, standing, light lifting, bending, and reaching.  Due to computer usage, there may be repetitive motions of the hands and wrists.
