Underpinning & Foundation Skanska, Inc. is a leading specialty foundation contractor specializing in the installation of driven and drilled piles, excavation support systems and ground improvement. Due to continued success, we are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Project Manager/Estimator for our Waltham, Massachusetts office. The position reports directly to the Area Manager and is responsible for preparing project estimates and proposals as well as planning and overseeing projects to ensure a timely and cost effective outcome.  The Project Manager/Estimator must be a team player and have strong organizational and problem solving skills.

What You’ll Do:
  • Evaluate and scrutinize incoming enquiries;
  • Assess technical and commercial issues of the project;
  • Prepare estimates and proposals for the execution of the work;

  • Negotiate terms and conditions with clients to contract award;

  • Assist in staff development, business development and client management;

  • Assist in maintaining effective relationships with internal and external clients;

  • Demonstrate commitment to an Injury-Free Environment and Skanska Safety and Health Management Program;

  • Hiring of subcontractors/vendors including negotiations, sub agreements, material agreements and PO’s;

  • Engage, hire, manage third party resources (engineering, subject matter experts, consultants, etc.);

  • Management of subcontractors and vendors schedule, performance, and payments;

  • Chair project meetings, including project team, owner and subcontractors meetings;

  • Identify Project Risk and develop Mitigation Plans;
  • Ensure timely notices as required to the owner to protect Skanska interests regarding extra work, design changes, delays, impacts, etc.;  

  • Manage project claims in collaboration with Skanska’s Legal Department;

  • Project submittals, process RFIs  & shop drawings, as required by the Owner; 
  • Manage and coordinate onsite staff; 
  • Manage the project budget utilizing Skanska’s Cost Control Systems; 

  • Prepare and coordinate payments from owner and ensure timely payments;

  • Develop and maintain the project schedule in sync with the project budget;

  • Develop and maintain site logistics plan with Superintendent staff; 

  • Ensure the project delivers a quality product meeting Skanska’s high quality standards;

  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.

We’re Looking For:
  • Hands on experience in all aspects of project management and estimating;

  • Extensive knowledge in estimating software; knowledge in HCSS estimating software a plus;

  • Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office products;

  • Ability to adapt to new innovations and processes;
  • Broad understanding of industry;
  • Strong written, verbal communication and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to multi-task;
  • Functions effectively as part of a team;
  • Dependability;
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times;

  • Ability to understand and follow directions;
  • Strong math/accounting and estimating skills;
  • Strong understanding of financial operations and cost control;

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills;
  • A civil engineering/construction background preferably with geotechnical training;

  • Minimum 5 – 10 year experience in deep foundation, heavy civil, building and/or marine construction;

  • Experience in various aspects of estimating including pre-construction planning and design, value engineering, bid preparation and execution.
