The Preconstruction Engineer assists, and supports the progress of existing preconstruction projects to ensure Skanska is completing its work accurately and efficiently.   The position works under direct supervision, performs daily estimating and planning activities and organizes and disseminates information applicable to the planning efforts.  The Preconstruction Engineer must be able to meet critical deadlines, accurately obtain quantities for building components and have the ability to work as part of a team. 

What You'll Do:

Able to read and interpret drawings and specifications;
Able to quantify architectural, structural, civil elements of a project where the design is complete or near completion. If MEP Discipline, same
Develops knowledge of construction pricing;
Developing expertise in the use of design model software. Capable of design model quality control reviews, quantity extraction for use in estimating, and using tool for site logistics;
Develops an understanding of conceptual estimating;
Able to network with applicable subcontractors in discipline expertise areas for the purpose of obtaining estimate input, preliminary bids and product information;
Able to receive, analyze and complete bid comparisons in discipline expertise areas;
Developing their presentation skills. Able to confidently explain / present their work to internal leadership;
Participates with estimating staff learning the basics of value management.

We’re Looking For:

Bachelor’s Degree – Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or equivalent/applicable degree;
0 to 4 years of estimating, controls and/or engineering experience;
Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office products, BIM software, Skanska document control software and Skanska estimating software;
Broad understanding of industry;
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
Functions effectively as part of a team; 
Keep project team informed on job progress;
Contributes to Skanska’s sustainability efforts;
Strong math/analytical skills;
Ability to meet critical deadlines;
Must be dependable;
Perseveres through challenges;
Seek training opportunities;
Be inquisitive and always want to know more;
Builds confident relationships with peers / coworkers;
