The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for the integration of environmental health and safety services into business practices and compliance with regulatory requirements on their assigned project. The EHS Manager shall be project based. The EHS Manager oversees the responsibilities of their assigned project as related to EHS services and has direct interaction with EHS Staff, Superintendents, Project Manager, Project Executive and Area Manager / Regional EHS Director.

Reports To: Senior EHS Manager / EHS Area Manager / EHS Director

What You’ll Do:

• Responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, local and client-required environmental, safety and health regulations;
• Responsible for implementation of Skanska’s Safety, Health and Environmental Management System (SHEMS) alongside operations;
• Directs and administers specific functions of the SHEMS and overall EHS program;
• Performs evaluations and inspections to confirm compliance and best practices;
• Ensures workers are appropriately using prescribed and proper safety equipment, such as glasses, hard hats, respirators, fall protection, clothing, etc.;
• Develops and administers site-specific project orientation and other required training;
• Ensures investigations are properly conducted, documented and reported to appropriate entities;
• Immediately implements and maintains corrective and preventative actions coming from incident investigations or instances of non-compliance found onsite;
• Reviews and coordinates the filing of all incident reports and legal issues;
• Develops an ongoing cycle of environmental, health and safety topics that are communicated onsite during training and at regularly scheduled job-site meetings;
• Prepares and reviews documentation to ensure all required records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted per established procedures and implement appropriate corrective action as required;
• Prepares and reviews documents in support of pre-task planning;
• Works with other EHS team members to provide top level expertise on EHS subjects;
• Promotes EHS awareness and fosters this awareness throughout the project;
• Promotes Skanska’s Care for Life value and our Injury Free Environment (IFE) culture throughout the project;
• Performs other duties as assigned.

We’re Looking For:

• Computer knowledge and efficiency (including but not limited to MS Office);
• Knowledge of Federal and State Regulations;
• Knowledge of construction and general industry;
• Knowledge and experience working with Regulatory Agencies such as, OSHA, EPA, DOT and others as appropriate.
• Understanding of ISO 14001/ISO 45001 standards;
• Understanding of pre-task planning;
• Strong written and verbal communication;
• Ability to multi task;
• Ability to function effectively as part of a team and to lead a team;
• Maintain discretion and confidentiality;
• Ability to understand and follow directions;
• Dependability;
• Good time management and organizational skills;
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety / Health, or an engineering discipline degree or equivalent combination of training and related experience;
• 3-5 years of construction and/or EHS experience at the management level required.
